Wilderness First Responder (WFR) 7 Day, April 30th - May 6th

Certified Through: Wilderness Medical Associates

What to Expect: The 7 Day WFR course is an intensive educational experience. Do to the accelerated nature of this course; it is paramount that students show up to course having read the first two sections (11 chapters) of their textbook and fully prepared to engage in the curriculum. Evenings will be spent studying and completing case studies. Students are strongly encouraged to take good care of themselves by staying hydrated and eating well throughout the day. You will be one of anywhere between 12 and 21 students working together to learn. This will be the first medical course for some students, while others will have taken several courses before.

Course Devotion: At least nine hours per day will be spent in the classroom and in the field. There are homework assignments each night including reading and case studies. It is not possible to be involved in any significant activity outside the course. 100% attendance is required (see Course Participation Standards). Students are expected to participate in all practical skills sessions (see Functional Position Statement).

Course Start/End: The classroom will be opened around 7am with the course beginning promptly at 8:00 am every day. The ending time will be approximately 6pm (even on the final day). However, our actual wrap-up time depends on a number of variables.

Required Pre-Course Work: All students should read at least the first 11 chapters (you will read the entire text, so feel free to read more) of the WFR textbook.  A course textbook will be mailed to your registration address 30 days before the class begins.. The more time you spend pre-course on studding your textbook the more dynamic the class sessions will be.

Course Location: The course will be held at Grand Canyon University: 3300 W. Camelback Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85020. Once at Grand Canyon University, you will be given the location of the classroom for study. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation. Lodging is available onsite at the Grand Canyon University Hotel (at students expense).
