Description:
  • Demystify the pathophysiology of concussion.
  • Explore diagnostic and assessment considerations starting with the acutely concussed patient and recognize factors that increase the risk of prolonged recovery and treatment persistent post concussive symptoms.
  • Compare recent trends and developments in concussion management research to current practice, and review current knowledge about Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)
  • Describe the benefits of a multidisciplinary/multitherapeutic approach to successful concussion management.
  • Determine which rehabilitative therapy services in the areas of vestibular, occupational, physical, vision, speech, neuropsychology and counseling would benefit patients, and refer as needed.
  • Implement exertion therapy protocol and describe its place in treatment.
  • Differentiate visual systems role in symptom presentation and determine when referral is warranted.
  • Recognize when a neck evaluation is indicated.
  • Describe the neuropsychiatric sequalae of concussion and symptoms that impact cognition and memory.
  • Implement team-based treatment plan via case-based study review.
