Did you know The Salvation Army established the first National Donut Day in 1938 in Chicago to help those in need during the Great Depression and commemorate the work of the “Donut Lassies” during World War I? The donut now serves as a symbol of the hope and comfort The Salvation Army provides to 23 million Americans every year through its many social service programs.
