Governor Steve Sisolak signed AB77 into law on June 12. The bill provides for a variety of effective dates, which makes things rather confusing for Nevada licensees. The regulatory process takes a minimum of 3 to 4 months, but the State of Nevada Board of Optometry is likely going to need 5 or 6 months. The State of Nevada Board of Optometry will address these issues as well as discuss the regulations at this meeting.

All existing certificates, licenses, and fees will be maintained at the status quo until the Board takes final action. While certain fees and new applications are likely to change as of July 1, the detailed language about how to implement mobile optometry, regulating the use of assistants, glaucoma by endorsement, business structures, prescribing, and so forth will not be completed until late Fall.

What’s more, there will be opportunities for optometrists to offer input to the State Board of Optometry between June 25 and the time the regulations become effective and enforceable.

We encourage you to attend this meeting, if possible, and to offer your input to the Board.
