Morning session: This seminar seeks to demonstrate the utilization of the Buffalo therapy model/Central Test Battery as a viable and innovative means to diagnose Auditory Processing Disorders (APD). This session will help clinicians interpret information from assessment results in the hope of furthering earlier identification, intervention and remediation. Specific categories of auditory processing disorders are described identifying the behavioral, academic and clinical indicators that can be observed by each type. A question/answer period will follow.
Afternoon session: This seminar and practical application session will focus on newly developed tools that have been developed for use by audiologists and speech and language pathologists to test and administer therapy to people who have auditory processing deficits using current technology.
The learner will be able to identify the three assessments utilized in the Buffalo Model’s Central Test Battery to diagnose APD.
The learner will be able to describe the difference between quantitative and qualitative test results on the Central Test Battery.
The learner will be able to list three qualifiers observed on the Staggered Spondaic Word Test.
The learner will be able to explain the validity data for using computer based test and therapy developments.
The learner will be able to identify an action appropriate therapy based on the APD test results.
The learner will be able to be able to set up and administer testing and therapeutic options.

Matthew Barker, AuD, CCC-A and MNZAS is the director of Acoustic Pioneer and developed the tools to be discussed in this seminar. He has been pursuing improvements in the auditory processing area since his doctoral research project in 2003 from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and has published and presented internationally on the subject.
