THE CHESTNUT HILL LOCAL PRESENTS- Philadelphia DA DEBATE

Description:
MARCH 23 DEBATE SCHEDULED IN DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S RACE
The Chestnut Hill Local,  a weekly newspaper serving Northwest Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs, and WHYY, the Philadelphia region’s leading public media organization, are co-sponsoring a two-hour debate among the candidates for Philadelphia district attorney, to be held Thursday evening March 23 at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Chestnut Hill.
All seven of the announced Democratic candidates, and an eighth expected to receive the Republican nomination, have agreed to appear at the event.  It will run from 7 to 9 p.m. in the school’s main auditorium at 8000 Cherokee Street.  Off-street parking is available.
The seven Democrats who have announced their candidacies for district attorney are Teresa Carr Deni, a former Municipal Court judge; Tariq El-Shabazz, a defense attorney who recently stepped down as first assistant to Dist. Atty. Seth Williams;  Joe Khan, a former city and federal prosecutor now in private practice;  Lawrence Krasner, a defense and civil rights attorney; Rich Negrin,  a former city prosecutor who was city managing director under Mayor Michael Nutter; former city prosecutor John O’Neill, and Michael Untermeyer, a former city and state prosecutor and currently a real estate investor. All have committed to participate in the Chestnut Hill debate, along with the sole announced Republican candidate, former city prosecutor Beth Grossman.
Dave Davies, senior reporter for WHYY and guest host of the station’s nationally-syndicated interview program, Fresh Air, will moderate the discussion.  Pete Mazzaccaro, the Chestnut Hill Local’s editor, will join Davies asking questions of the candidates.
All the candidates filed their nominating petitions with city election officials this week and they remain subject to signature challenges and other problems that could knock them off the ballot. The city’s primary elections are scheduled for Tuesday May 16.
