Position Description: 
This employee assists in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 
Independent judgment must be used when accomplishing tasks. The wastewater treatment plant operator shall possess the ability to understand the proper operation of the plant, accurately interpret and apply NPDES permit, state and federal rules and regulations, perform basic laboratory tests and apply the results of testing to the process, trouble-shoot process problems, make control decisions, maintain accurate and orderly records, perform routine equipment maintenance (change oil, grease equipment, etc.), possess the ability to do grounds maintenance, and possess the ability to work unsupervised. 

Education/Experience/Skills Required: 
Must have an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Employee must possess the ability to understand and follow moderately complex written and oral instructions, read, write legibly and make accurate mathematic calculations. 
Preference will be given for applicable experience and/or Grade III or Grade IV Wastewater Treatment license. If the applicant does not currently possess a Grade III or Grade IV Wastewater Treatment License, on the job training and classroom training will be provided to the extent to qualify the “operator in training” to sit for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Water/Wastewater Operator Certification exam. The “operator in training” will be required to obtain a Grade III certification within two years, or a Grade IV certification within three years. 

Salary: 
Salary is dependent on license grade, experience and/or specific skills.
