Engineer I:

This is the first of five levels in the Engineering series. Incumbents perform engineering tasks as assigned. Responsibilities may include assistance in identifying and addressing issues in utility systems and other public works infrastructure; field reconnaissance, surveys, testing and other data collection; engineering calculations, hydraulic modeling, data analyses and other technical assessments; preparation and presentation of reports; plan review and construction inspection to determine compliance with design standards and approved plans and specifications; assistance with public works design projects; and assistance with project management activities.

Engineer II:

This is the second of five levels in the Engineering series. Incumbents perform engineering tasks as assigned. Responsibilities may include assistance in identifying and addressing issues in utility systems and other public works infrastructure; field reconnaissance, surveys, testing and other data collection; engineering calculations, hydraulic modeling, data analyses and other technical assessments; preparation and presentation of reports; plan review and construction inspection to determine compliance with design standards and approved plans and specifications; assistance with public works design projects; and assistance with project management activities.


Engineer III:

This is the third of five levels in the Engineering series. Incumbents perform a variety of professional engineering projects and tasks. Responsibilities may include identifying and addressing issues in utility systems and other public works infrastructure; review and evaluation of surveys, operational records, testing and other data; engineering calculations, hydraulic modeling, data analyses and other technical assessments; preparation and presentation of reports; review and approval of developer construction plans to ensure compliance with City design standards and specifications; inspection, review, and acceptance of newly constructed public works infrastructure; design of public works infrastructure improvement projects; and project management activities including monitoring project schedule and budget compliance. Responsibilities may include oversight, review and approval of work by lower level employees.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential Functions - Engineer I
-Performs engineering assessments as assigned, including identification, evaluation and resolution of utility system issues. Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data which may include determining what data needs to be collected, performing field reconnaissances, surveys, operational record review, testing and other data collection activities. Performs engineering calculations, computer modeling and other technical assessments. Determines root cause and delivers alternative solutions along with pros and cons, including schedule and budget considerations. Prepares written reports and presents findings to project engineers and/or supervisors.
-Under the direction of a licensed engineer, assists in the design of public works infrastructure improvements, including data collection, design calculations, material and equipment research, deed, plat and easement research, plan and specification preparation, permit application preparation, and cost estimations.
-Reviews residential and commercial construction plans to determine compliance with design criteria and the City’s Standard Specifications and Details and reports findings to supervisors.
-Observes and inspects public works infrastructure construction to determine compliance with approved plans and specifications. Participates in equipment, process and system startups and reviews test reports and other performance based data for compliance.
-Assists and participates in the management and coordination of design and construction projects under contract with the City, including responding to data requests, change order proposal review, participating in progress meetings, workshops and site visits, monitoring schedule and budget, deliverable review, invoice review, and other project management activities. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
-Performs other related work as required.

Prepares written reports and presents findings to project engineers and/or supervisors. May include oversight, review and approval of work by lower level employees.
-In responsible charge of design of public works infrastructure improvements projects. Design effort tasks may include data collection, design calculations, hydraulic modeling, material and equipment research, deed, plat and easement research, plan and specification preparation, permit application preparation, and cost estimations. May include oversight, review and approval of work by lower level employees assisting with the design.
-Reviews and approves residential, commercial and industrial construction plans to ensure compliance with design criteria and the City’s Standard Specifications and Details.
-Observes, inspects and approves public works infrastructure construction to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications. Participates in equipment, process and system startups and reviews and approves test reports and other performance based data for compliance.
-Manages public works design and construction projects of consultants and contractors under contract with the City, including responding to data requests and other requests for information (RFIs), review and approval of change order proposals and initiation of change orders, participating in progress meetings, workshops and site visits, monitoring project schedule and budget compliance, deliverable review and approval, invoice review and approval, and other project management activities.
-Performs other related work as required.


Education/Experience/Skills Required:
Engineer I:
-Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or a related field from an ABET accredited program.
-An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties.
-Engineer Intern Certification (EIT).

Engineer II:
-Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or a related field from an ABET accredited program.
-Two (2) years of engineering experience.
-An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties.
-Engineer Intern Certification (EIT).


Engineer III
-Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or a related field from an ABET accredited program.
-An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties.
-Tennessee Professional Engineering License (PE)


Salary:
$66,809.00 - $110,486.00 Annually
