Carriage House Children’s Center nurtures the lives of children & their families in an early learning environment that values exploration, problem-solving & each child’s natural curiosity as the foundation for life-long learning. Carriage House understands that children construct their knowledge of their world through active participatory learning. Guided by the emergent HighScope© curriculum, NAEYC’s teaching standards and the PA Early Learning Standards, teachers provide space, time, experiences, support, and a wide variety of materials to stimulate, soothe, inspire, and challenge children to discover, invent, and problem solve. Children engage in self-initiated and teacher-initiated activities as they explore materials with all of their senses. Teachers play alongside children observing, listening, and conversing with the children about what they are doing and thinking. These observations and conversations provide teachers with the knowledge necessary to extend each child’s learning. While reflecting on their actions, children integrate new experiences into their existing knowledge.
