ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Last week, ASAC hosted our annual conference in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City was a great location and the lineup of speakers did not disappoint! Next month's Communique will have a summary and pictures from the annual conference. Thank you to the ASAC leadership team who put in hours and hours of work to put this meeting together! We will announce the location of the 2023 Annual Conference next month.

Russell Morgan presented the interim ASAC financial report (ASAC’s fiscal year is now the calendar year). This report was from 01/01/2022-10/22/2022. This was not a typical month-end report since significant financial activity (primarily related to the Annual Conference) occurred after 10/01. ASAC MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

This month we introduce you to ASAC CFO, Russell Morgan, Morgan Agricultural Consulting Services.

Contrary to popular rumor, Russell was not present at the inaugural meeting of ASAC.  Russell became a member of ASAC in 1994, so he has been a member almost 1/2 of ASAC’s existence.  Morgan's consulting practice is somewhat diverse but is concentrated in the area of Farm Business Advisory Services. Other services include Farm Financial and Economic Analysis; Economic Loss Estimation; Short / Long-term Cash Flow and Economic Projections; and related Managerial Economic Consultation.

Membership in ASAC has proven invaluable to Russell over the course of his Ag Consulting career. Membership value has been garnered via a myriad of avenues.  “Formal” education derived from conferences, seminars, and round table discussions have enhanced his knowledge base and consulting acumen.  Informal education via fellowship and networking within ASAC has helped further Russell’s professional development immensely. Sometimes adventitious discussions have spurred concepts and ideas he would not have otherwise envisioned on his own.

Russell’s advice to beginning and seasoned agricultural consultants is, “Develop and cultivate an extensive network of peers – not all of which operate in the same ag consulting lane as yourself. There is significant value added to your consultancy, when you can admit to a client that you may not know the answer to an issue, but you know someone who does.”

Non-work activities Russell enjoys are tennis, exploring new areas of this amazing country and being “Pop-Pop” to his two grandchildren.

IB'S INSIGHTFUL INTROSPECTIONS

Ib Hagsten was a longtime member of ASAC who left a lasting legacy with our organization. It is impossible to replicate Ib's wit and down-to-earth observations. In his honor, we offer these words of wisdom...

"Keep your face always toward the sunshine, and shadows will fall behind you."

Walt Whitman

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."
John Quincy Adams

“I won’t get upset at you about a mistake. I’ll get upset at you for the next mistake

that comes from still thinking about the last mistake.”

Doc Rivers
