MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

I'm an image

Pete Weisenberger

Another year is about to come to an end and we’re making those New Year’s promises that we fully intend to keep........at least through the end of January.

Jean Merry is now officially on board as Executive Director and is fast getting a handle on the workings of the Society. Muchas gracias to Traci as she is on board until December 31 helping with the transition.

We’re continuing the ASAC Lunch n’ Learn Webinar Series and have some exciting editions forthcoming in the next few months. Thanks to Russell Morgan and the Continuing Education Committee for planning and hosting these informative webinars. Coming Wednesday, January 11, at 12:00 noon CT will be an excellent program featuring Dr. Jim Mintert, Purdue University Professor of Agricultural Economics and Director, Center for Commercial Agriculture. He will provide observations and insights on the Purdue University/CME Group's Ag Economy Barometer.  The registration link is:  ASAC Webinar - Ag Economy Barometer

The Shop Talk series will be coming forth with some great content in 2023. I encourage everyone to help develop program ideas and content. Step up and host a Shop Talk program.  Contact Jean Merry for information and begin developing a program.

Another opportunity to actively participate is the Blog Post. Write an article on something pertinent to our consulting profession and submit it to Don Tyler, Northern Region Director (don@dontyler.com).  He’s taking the lead on getting content to the website. Keep an article to no more than 600 words.

As I noted in last month’s Communique, the board members discussed committee assignments at the December board of directors meeting. I repeat my call from last month. If anyone wants to participate on any committee, please contact Jean at evp@agconsultants.org and indicate your interests and your preferences. Certainly, anyone with a burning desire to take a leading role on any committee, speak up.  The success of the Society is predicated on every one of us finding that role that will advance the Society’s mission and, subsequently, each of our individual missions.

Enough for this month’s message.  Let’s wrap up this year and begin 2023 on a high note, optimism and determination to grow the Society and thrive.  Let’s make things happen...

Have a safe and Blessed Christmas and New Year holiday.  Eat well and enjoy your family and friends.

Remember the “Reason for the Season.”  Wherever you are...

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING NOTES, December 2022

Financial Report – Russell Morgan, CFO

As an overview, there has been little financial activity (since we showed the details for the Skirvin Hotel last month) - other than normal monthly expenses. I will provide an updated financial report with extensive write-up (including Annual Conference analysis) by early next week. We of course will discuss the full year-end analytics on the January BOD virtual meeting.

Meetings Committee - Keith Dickinson, Chair

The committee has identified Fresno, Calif., as the preferred location for the 2023 meeting. The proposed dates are November 5-7. We have received proposals from three hotels in the Fresno area and are reviewing those. Paige Gillian volunteered to visit the hotels in person to provide her insight into quality of accommodations, etc. The committee hopes to have confirmed dates and the hotel recommendation for the Board to approve by the end of the 2022 calendar year.

Continuing Education Committee - Russell Morgan, Chair

A webinar is scheduled for noon (CT) on January 11: “Ag Economy Barometer – Insights” by Dr. James Minert, PhD, Director, Center for Commercial Agriculture, and Professor, Department of Agricultural Economics, Purdue University. A Shop Talk session is being planned for January. The proposed topic will be “Trade Show Strategies for Consultants.”

Marketing & Promotion Committee - Paige Gilligan, Chair

This committee is looking to increase the number of committee members and is waiting for the outcomes of the planning segment of the January 17 board meeting before delineating 2023 goals and activities.

By-laws Committee – Dave Mielnicki, Chair

The updated By-laws, dated October 25, 2022, have been posted with a certificate signed by Keith Dickinson as Vice President/Secretary at that time.

Accreditation (CAC) Committee – Bill Zweigbaum,  Chair

The CEU submission form was emailed to all CAC members. The deadline to submit 2022 continuing education is January 15, 2023. The committee will meet after that to approve CEUs for the CAC designation

IB'S INSIGHTFUL INTROSPECTIONS

Ib Hagsten was a longtime member of ASAC who left a lasting legacy with our organization. It is impossible to replicate Ib's wit and down-to-earth observations. In his honor, we offer these words of wisdom...

Can you not see that the task is your task - yours to dream, yours to resolve, yours to execute?

Upton Sinclair

The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience.
