MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

I'm an image

Keith Dickinson, CFP®,  CAC, RICP

The ASAC Annual Conference is just a few weeks away, and I am looking forward to seeing many of you in person. The Annual Conference is the ‘premier activity’ of ASAC, and I hope that any of you who are still on the fence about attending will choose to join us there. We are thankful that the recent hurricanes have spared the Fort Myers area, which means that our conference will go on as planned, without any impact to the event. However, I am mindful of the many, many people whose lives have been upended by both Hurricanes Helene and Milton, including many in the agricultural community. Please join me in continuing to pray for those who have been impacted for a quick and effective recovery and return to normalcy as soon as possible.

As my time as your president winds down, I am reflecting on the past year. We have had quite a few transitions within the organization in the past year in terms of leadership roles on various committees. We still have a few areas of need for our members to ‘step up’ and serve in a few roles that remain vacant. I hope that you will consider being one of those volunteers.

I am excited about the level of interest that some of our newer members have expressed in becoming certified as a Certified Agricultural Consultant (CAC). I am also excited about the new relationship that ASAC has developed with MACS Academy, a joint venture of two of our ASAC members, Russell Morgan and Paige Gilligan. Through this relationship with MACS Acadamy, ASAC will have a more robust and regular offering of in-depth training for our members, that will ‘fast track’ the CAC certification process for those members who are interested.

Finally, I would like to make mention of an initiative that we will be launching within the next couple of months in order to gain feedback from ALL of our members. ASAC has many new faces among its members and, as such, I feel that there is a need to engage with all of our members to understand YOUR needs and goals for your ASAC membership. ASAC will be developing a member survey over the next month or two that will be sent to all ASAC members. We want to hear from you! When you see this survey, please take some time to review it and complete it. Let us know how we are doing and what you are expecting from your membership.

See you in Fort Myers!

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING NOTES, October 2024

Meetings Committee - Dave Mielnicki, Chair

Reported that the conference venue, both hotel and tour locations, sustained no damage from the recent hurricanes, and everything is a GO for the conference. However, the hotel realized that the storm during the week before the deadline (October 12) may have caused members to hold off on registering. Therefore, all early registration discounts have been extended to October 21.

Continuing Education Committee - Scott Mickey, Chair

Reported that a webinar on Making Cooperatives More Relevant and Exciting is scheduled for December 3, and a Shop Talk on Year-end Planning for Consultants is scheduled for December 9. January offerings are currently being finalized. Additional CAC courses are also being planned for the first quarter of 2025.

Strategic Alliance Committee – Norm Brown, Committee Chair

Member input is still needed on the Strategic Alliance Input Form that was sent to all ASAC members. Attendees at the conference, who have not already done so, will be asked to complete the form there.

Nominating Committee - Pete Weisenberger, Chair

The 2024-25 ballot for elections at the Annual Membership Meeting in Fort Myers on November 5 was presented. A nominee is still needed for the Vice President/Secretary position.

New Business - Keith Dickinson, Board Chair

Recommended that an ad hoc committee be established to formulate a member relations survey to discern membership needs / expectations; determine meeting content and attendance; desired membership benefits, etc. It was agreed that board members who will be in attendance at the Annual Conference will begin working on this immediately following the BOD Meeting in Fort Myers.

Next Board of Directors Meeting - November 3 - 3:30 - 5 p.m. EDT, Fort Myers, Fla.

Any members attending the Annual Conference are welcome to sit in.

IB'S INSIGHTFUL INTROSPECTIONS

Ib Hagsten was a longtime member of ASAC who left a lasting legacy with our organization. It is impossible to replicate Ib's wit and down-to-earth observations. In his honor, we offer these words of wisdom...

Just take any step, whether small or large. And then another and repeat every day.

It may take months, maybe years, but the path to success will become clear.
