Nightclubs and banquet halls ordered to close as B.C. announces tough new venue restrictions

CTV News, Tuesday, September 8, 2020 -  B.C.'s nightclubs and stand-alone banquet halls have been ordered to close immediately to help stop the spread of COVID-19, health officials announced Tuesday.

The sale of alcohol in all bars, pubs and restaurants must also cease nightly at 10 p.m. Venues must also close at 11 p.m., unless they are providing full meal service, but they must not serve alcohol.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry also announced measures that would make it easier for people to avoid speaking loudly. Music or other background sounds, such as from televisions, must be no louder than the volume of normal conversation.

Government Announces Extension of Rent Relief for Small Businesses

September 8, 2020 - Ottawa, Ontario

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, and the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, the Honourable Mary Ng, announced that Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) for small businesses will be extended by one month to help eligible small businesses pay rent for September. All provinces and territories continue to participate in this initiative and collaborate with the federal government to provide rent supports to those small businesses most in need. Current CECRA application deadlines will also be extended to accommodate this extension.
