Head Start 101: The Basics and Beyond for Head Start Staff & Parents
12/4/2019 - 12/4/2019 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Event Description
A session for new Head Start employees, parents, current staff and staff who train other staff and parents
Understanding the history, structure, regulations, politics, culture and relationships are the building blocks of strong systems and successful partnerships to support positive program outcomes. This is a unique opportunity for those new to Head Start (and those who train others in their agencies) to gain an appreciation of where we have been, where we are now, and what the future holds for Head Start.
This session, facilitated by Barbara Haxton, Executive Director of OHSAI and other Head Start Experts, will cover Head Start history, philosophy, funding and politics, structure and systems, relationships to state programs, and regulatory frameworks. We encourage attendees (especially parents) to stay for the Parent Community of Learners session (December 5th) at the OHSAI December Quarterly Meeting to learn more about Head Start Governance Requirements for Governing Boards, Policy Councils and Policy Committees.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify key events of Head Start history
2. Identify federal, state and local aspects of Head Start structure
3. Identify key sources of Head Start rules and regulations
4. Connect State entities to local services
5. Identify government processes that determine the course of Head Start and opportunities for influence
6. Identify the values that drive Head Start's mission
IACET CEUs will be available for this event.
