TAC Luncheon - January 23, 2020
1/23/2020

Event Description

TAC Presentation

Unlocking the Mysteries of Granular Sludge & Results from the Metro District's Hydrocyclone Case Study

The first part of the presentation will be an overview of granular sludge presented by Art Umble, PhD. He will summarize what granular sludge is, available technologies, and highlight the potential benefits for the wastewater industry. Included will be some lessons learned with respect to commissioning and operating granular sludge systems. The second half of the discussion will be from Isaac Avila with Metro Wastewater Reclamation District (Metro District). Isaac will present results from testing performed on a full-scale secondary treatment train located at the Metro District’s Robert W. Hite Treatment Facility. Results from this effort suggest that through a combination of process changes and selective wasting using InDense™ hydrocyclones, aerobic densified solids can be formed and retained in plug-flow systems. The impact of these results on capacity will be discussed.
