Webinar Series: Is TF-CBT Trauma Narration Necessary? What the Research Says with Judith Cohen, M.D.
5/25/2021 - 5/25/2021
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Event Description
Workshop Description: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for children with traumatic stress symptoms. The TF-CBT model includes nine components summarized by the acronym PRACTICE, which are contained in three phases:  Skills/Stabilization Phase; Trauma Narration and Processing Phase; and Integration Phase. Some therapists are concerned about the potential for the Trauma Narration and Processing phase to “re-traumatize” children; others are themselves avoidant of hearing children’s trauma descriptions. This presentation describes what the research tells us about whether—and for whom-- Trauma Narration and Processing is necessary for successful treatment outcome.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe two goals of the  TF-CBT Trauma Narration and Processing component

  2. Describe three clinical presentations for which the research suggests that including TF-CBT trauma narration is important for optimal outcomes

  3. Describe what the qualitative research has documented about youth views of TF-CBT trauma narration.
