APSAC Round Tables are opportunities for an informal, 60-minute discussion on a specific topic relevant to child maltreatment facilitated by an expert in the field. These special small group discussions are available only to members and participation is limited to 25, first come first serve. A second Roundtable on a particular topic may be scheduled if interest significantly exceeds capacity.

Round Table Description:

Federal legislative changes, state initiated reform efforts, and numerous philanthropic initiatives offer important learning opportunities to dismantle the long standing imbalance within the current child welfare system between the important values of child safety, healthy child development and parental autonomy. A key hallmark of these efforts is rethinking how and when parents are offered assistance.   Public child welfare needs to be viewed as an alternative intervention within a broad system of family support. This roundtable will discuss the conceptual and organizational changes needed to reduce the need for mandated interventions and child placement by optimizing more consistent and integrated public child welfare-community prevention partnerships.
