2020 Youth Fall Erging & Learn To Scull II & III
10/5/2020 - 11/1/2020

Event Description

Welcome to the fall session of our youth Erg Workouts and the continuation of our Learn To Scull (LTS) program!!

This fall session will run from Monday October 5th to Sunday November 1st.  A total of 4 weeks before we have to set the clocks back and lose our daylight (sorry to remind you).

We will have an erging program Monday-Thursday with two 1 hour classes. Rowers have the option to sign up for 1-3x a week.  In addition, experienced rowers who sign up to erg 2-3x a week, may also choose our continued LTS program Fridays-Sunday with different 1.5 hour times slots depending on experience.   Generally fall is the time we focus on our experienced rowers as the weather starts to get a bit colder, more unpredictable and the water a bit rougher.  This will be the case with our Learn To Scull program, so there will be no beginner/introductory classes.  We will however welcome new participants to our erg workouts on select day/times.

Classes will be held rain or shine!   On rainy days we will hold land based instruction with masks on or at a social distance.  Land base instruction will be based on the experience level of the class ranging from cross training to rowing terminology to seamanship.   For sculling, in the event weather forces us to land based training more than one time, we will aim to reschedule that 2nd as a make-up day on the water by utilizing the weekend after the end of this session, Nov 2-4th. Should we run into multiple weather issues causing additional cancellations we will reach out to you with a solution.

Class size limited to 3 per class.  Two classes will generally launch 15 minutes apart for ease and safety at the boat ramp.

We anticipate you will understand that we take on-the-water and COVID-19 safety seriously. We will continue to be cautious as we coach single sculling to our youth.  There is always a chance they may go overboard in the cold water (sometimes they want to do this intentionally -!!) but there will always be a coach or two on hand as well as emergency procedures in place should the need arise.  Single shells in Cohasset harbor and waters require much more skill, independence, and maturity than our almost unsinkable and coxed coastal 4s.
Here at CMI we are looking forward to another great session and seeing your youth continue to gain confidence, endurance while improving their overall strength and technique.
