2022 Youth Summer Season
7/5/2022 - 8/15/2022

Event Description
REGISTRATION OPEN!!

Welcome to the CMI’s Youth Rowing Registration for the 2022 Season and  Learn to Row programs!

CMI offers several options for youth summer rowing. Our 6-week season runs from Tuesday, July 5th through Monday August 15th.  We row in 4-person boats, especially designed for ocean rowing in the waters off Cohasset.  The youth (rising 8th graders and up) row as part of a crew that includes four-six rowers plus one experienced coxswain to steer the boat and coach the rowers, with scheduled rowing in 1.5 hour designated time slots each week.  Sessions available this summer are:
  • Monday through Thursday, at 9:30-11:00 am and 3:00-4:30 pm
  • You can select to row 2x- 4x a week
  • One or two boats (of the four/five) in sessions will be dedicated to new rowers for learn-to-row (LTR)
    • First week of session, new rowers will start on ergs(indoor rowing machines) in boathouse to learn technique and quickly move to on the water and eventually transition in with the other experienced rowers.
Each session can have about 22 rowers registered, so please register sooner to get your desired day/time selections.  Should we get overbooked, we will use our best efforts to organize sessions based on availability of boats, timing and staff.

Important Session Notes
  • Arriving on time and attendance is important.  Boats can not wait for rowers as our session time is designed to get all the boats out on the water, work on technique, practice, take breaks, have fun, and return amongst other boats in the harbor in a safe manner. Safety is a big concern so there may be a few days when we go over by a little due to the harbor filling with other boats who also use the same channels and boat ramp to get in/out.
  • If you know your child can not make an upcoming session or is sick please email us at info@rowcmi.org asap. Attendance is taken.
  • Weather: Class will be held even when the weather looks iffy as we use the harbor for drills or the boathouse ergs for technique and training in less than ideal conditions.  If the harbor is closed due to extreme winds/storms, we will send cancellation messages. If you do not receive one to the email on file, then class is still on.
  • Wear: Rowers should wear sunscreen, hats, and shoes that will get wet (water shoes, old sneakers, crocs but NOT flipflops). Also bring a reusable water bottle as we do take breaks. We do have a water dispenser if needed. Please do not use disposable water bottles that could end up in the water/land as  there is no rubbish bin at the boathouse.

We reserve the right to consolidate classes and/or move rowers to other days/times based on numbers and abilities in order to offer the best learning environment for your rower. Program Director Frank Townsend, Coach John Liffmann and Coach Liz O'Connell run our youth rowing programs and can be reached at ProgramDirector@rowcmi.org should you have any program questions.

As always, we believe that cost should never be a barrier to committed youth who want to row so please do not hesitate to reach out to administrator@rowcmi.org to find out options to keep you rowing!
