Four Rivers Sanitation Authority: Primary Filtration and AGS Facilities
Friday, October 23, 2026
11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Four Rivers Sanitation Authority (3501 Kishwaukee Street, Rockford)
The Four Rivers Sanitation Authority (FRSA) has been implementing innovative technologies as part of its overall program to address pending nutrient limits at its 40 mgd (design average flow) treatment plant. This event will highlight two such technologies now in operation - primary filtration and aerobic granular sludge (AGS), each supplied by Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc. The primary filtration facilities replaced part of FRSA’s aged primary settling facilities and uses media filtration to separate solids instead of a traditional settling process, treating up to 30 mgd. The AGS facility provides for up to 15 mgd of treatment of primary effluent treated through a semi-continuous flow system where rapidly settling solids are fostered allowing for phosphorus levels in the AGS effluent of 0.5 mg/L and direct discharge to the receiving stream without further treatment other than disinfection.
FRSA site access instructions will be emailed to registered attendees the week of the event.
Agenda (subject to change):
Lunch will be provided, thanks to our generous sponsors:
Hosted by IWEA's Research & Innovation and Student and Young Professionals Committees
