Overview
A construction risk professional and an attorney will provide attendees with a foundation of knowledge on how opioids and marijuana will continue to impact your job sites. The intersections of ADA, OSHA, FMLA, and Workers Compensation will be explored as well as new developments in legislation at the federal and state levels. Strategies for effective drug abuse prevention programs will be discussed as well as the changing focus of impairment, fitness for duty, and positive test results.

Hugh is a shareholder at Fabyanske, Westra, Hart & Thomson, P.A., located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Hugh represents contractors, subcontractors and owners in construction disputes in federal and state court, and in arbitration.  Hugh is experienced in prosecuting and defending bond claims and mechanics’ lien claims.  He also advises participants in the construction industry in labor and other regulatory issues.  Hugh was named to the Minnesota Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars list every year for the last four years, and is the Secretary of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Construction Law Section Council.

Abby Ferri, CSP | Vice President
National Construction Practice
Abby is Vice President of the National Construction Practice at Hays Companies, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, is an OSHA Outreach Trainer for Construction, and a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). 
Abby is responsible for risk control, program development, training, and regulatory compliance for her clients in the construction, manufacturing, energy, beverage, hospitality, and retail industries throughout the United States and Canada. In addition to providing services for clients, Abby is an Adjunct Instructor in the Construction Management Program at Dunwoody College of Technology, President-Elect of the Northwest Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), and Administrator of the Women in Safety Excellence common interest group of the ASSP.
