The Experience Modification Rate (EMR), commonly called an "e-mod," is an important factor used to adjust the Workers’ Compensation premium.  These three little letters – EMR, also carry significant weight when it comes to a contractor’s ability to bid on a construction project. The Workers’ Compensation Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is a number that is generated every year for every contractor by the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) for insurance carriers.  We will take a deep dive into the EMR:
  • Understanding of the different components
  • How it is calculated
  • What impacts the calculation
  • What and how a contractor can control the EMR
