OVERVIEW

If you are in the commercial construction industry, you should be at this event. The panel will discuss where Lean Construction got its start, how each company views the process, why it is important and where they are going with it. This is a great opportunity to get an overall understanding of Lean Construction and how it used each and every day!

MODERATOR


Klaus Lemke 

LeanProject
     Klaus is the Managing Principal of LeanProject. His expertise spans all aspects of project design and construction, with a career-long focus on continuous improvement and lean construction.
A Civil Engineering graduate from the University of Illinois, and a former PE in that state, Klaus started his career as a structural designer for an international engineering and construction firm headquartered in Chicago. He eventually shifted to the construction management side of the business and led numerous oil refinery projects in the US. His early experience with Total Quality Management and continuous improvement form the basis of his personal philosophy on organizational management.

Perry Thompson
Lean Executive Director

Parsons Electric
     Perry is Lean Executive Director at Parsons Electric. Perry's interest in construction began with his family's tradition of construction in carpentry and masonry fields. Perry served honorably in the United States Air Force. Following the service, he spent many years earning degrees in the technologies industry until he joined Parsons and began his electrical construction career where he has served for the last twenty years. 
     Perry has held positions of increasing responsibility including estimator, project manager, senior project manager, and division manager of Parsons' Southwest Office in Phoenix, AZ. He then returned home as Construction Executive. He was promoted in April of 2015 to Lean Executive Director and joined the senior management team in 2016. 
     Perry is a certified instructor for Lean Construction Institute (LCI), served (s) on the LCI education board and is a certified instructor for Jeff Liker’s Lean Leadership Institute (LLI). He has certified hundreds of lean students in the Parson’s Black Belt program, developed by Perry and LLI, to achieve the corporate goal of becoming a “Lean Ready” trade partner. 
     He has been fortunate to have been personally coached by Paul Akers, Mister Two Second Lean, Ritsuo Shingo, one-time CEO for Toyota, Nigel Thurlow, Chief of Agile for Toyota, Dr. Jacob Abraham, former lean coach at Toyota, and George Trachilis, CEO of LLI. Perry humbly admits when surrounded by these giants he is still Tom Thumb…on his lean journey. 
     Perry continues to develop lean leaders throughout the company from senior managers, middle managers, project managers, to field leaders. Perry has partnered with Turner Construction, and LLI to write a book on Parson’s P4 – Planning, a Trade Partner’s guide to lean construction. 
     Perry has been married to his wife Sue for 38 years and has three children and four grandchildren.?

Brandon Van Zeeland
Production Manager at McGough

     Brandon joined McGough in 2018 as an Operational Excellence (Lean) Deployment Leader. His focus is creating better buildings by integrating safety, schedule, quality, cost, prefabrication and supply chain management in a lean production system. In his role at McGough, Brandon has managed the Last Planner System (LPS) team and implemented LPS on large projects. Additionally, he has created metrics that help to analyze McGough’s profit centers. Brandon earned a B.A. in Economics from Lawrence University.
