JTAC Presentation

Financial Metric for Utilities – AWWA Benchmarking Survey

Thursday, March 1, 2017

Description:

This JTAC luncheon will discuss the AWWA Benchmarking Survey of financial metrics for utilities. The financial related questions and metrics included in the benchmarking survey will be highlighted and discussed by Stephanie Passarelli, who is leading the AWWA survey. Following this discussion, Todd Cristiano and Andrew Rheem of Raftelis Financial Consultants will discuss financial and rate related metrics that are typically considered when completing studies for utilities, as well as highlight indicators that can be used to identify challenges before they become significant. Areas considered include affordability measures, liquidity, revenue stability, debt issuance related metrics, reserves, capital and capital funding. To illustrate trends and differences, trends and attributes using financial metrics will be reviewed for ammonized Colorado utilities generally serving between 50,000 and 150,000 residents.
