When the flood occurred in September 2013, the City of Evans, Colorado was already evaluating needed improvements to increase capacity of the wastewater infrastructure at the Evans Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF). The City of Evans had two lagoon wastewater treatment facilities: Evans WWTP (located on the east side of Evans) and Hill-N-Park Facility (located at the southwest side of Evans). After the flood and further studying the issue, the City decided that the most financially responsible option was to consolidate wastewater operations between the two WWTFs by eventually closing the Evans WWTP facility and adding capacity at the Hill-N-Park facility, which was out of the floodplain. The flood caused serious damage to the facilities, highlighting the vulnerability of maintaining a treatment facility in a floodplain. Construction of the new, 2.88 MGD Consolidated WWTP was complete in 2018. The new facility was built partially with funding through a Natural Disaster Grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment. The luncheon will consist of a short presentation with a tour of the facility following. Presentation and tour will be given by Robby Porsch, Acting Wastewater Superintendent with the City of Evans, and Keith Meyer with Ditesco.
