Topic: Offers in Compromise: Fact vs. Fiction

Objecitves: Participants will discuss and learn about the following:
    As we move into Phase I of opening up businesses and assuming a new normal with our lives, there are certain to be long-lasting economic ramifications from the Covid-19     pandemic.  Many professionals forecast an increase in bankruptcy filings, but there is another avenue for more limited relief that may be a better alternative for certain     individuals and businesses: the IRS’s Offer in Compromise. This presentation explains what to expect in the Offer in Compromise process and dispels some of the most     frequent misconceptions of the program.

Bio:
John Morgan is Counsel at Rees Broome, PC, in Tysons Corner, Virginia and a JAG Officer in the West Virginia Air National Guard.  John concentrates his practice on estate planning and administration and tax planning and controversy.  John is also a former adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College, where he taught a class on federal income taxation of individuals.  John is currently the co-chair of the Tax Section of the Fairfax Bar Association.  John received his B.A. in Government from The College of William and Mary, J.D. from The Catholic University of America, and LL.M. in Taxation, with distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center.  He is licensed to practice as an attorney in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, as a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia, and as a Certified Financial Planner™.  John lives in Burke, Virginia with his wife and one-year old son.
