Centralized Vehicle Data Repository

The IARA Standards Committee is recommending the creation of a Centralized Data Repository supported by the automotive remarketing industry and used to collect and share the following information at VIN-level detail:

Manufacturer build data
Invoice and/or MSRP
Recall information
Warranty details

Consignors and auctions alike have always communicated the expectations for creating a competitive bid process, maintaining accurate documentation, and for protecting the interests of the ultimate consumer. Audits over the years by various federal and state agencies have always been a part of doing business for consignors and auctions, but preparation is the key to minimizing disruption of normal business functions. By forming a 'guideline' for preparedness, the hopes are to reduce the current time and effort required for maintaining and retrieving records in the event of an audit.

Mission:

The Technology Committee's mission is to explore current and new technologies that may be applied to the remarketing industry. Further, the committee seeks to keep IARA members informed about technological innovations that are relevant for them and to make recommendations regarding these innovations

Achievements for 2021:

We expanded our team from one member to a total of 6 members by end of 2021. We have diverse representation from auctions, consignors, and third parties.
We had John Mathiowetz volunteer to take the lead on EV focus for IARA which led to multiple domains being assigned to a few IARA committees. The charter for the technology committee is "Batteries and Charging Infrastructure"
We agreed to first document the glossary of EV terms for battery and charging - this would allow for a good foundation for our discussions and items relevant for IARA audience
We also spent some time educating on how to use VIMEO for sharing video content amongst IARA members
Focus for 2022

We have a two-pronged focus for 2022:

EV domain of "Batteries and Charging Infrastructure"

We are reviewing the first draft of EV glossary (commonly used terms) for batteries and charging stations. Once this document is finalized, we will do our best to add some visuals for pertinent items and then place it in a special section in the IARA website for audience consumption
We will actively look to recruit an industry expert to host a panel discussion related to "Battery and Charging Infrastructure"
We will contribute regular updates to the VOICE newsletter
We will partner with the Canadian IARA Technology committee to ensure we have synergies on the parallel efforts they have undertaken
