Topic 1: Aquifer Storage and Recovery Pilot:
Stantec, led by Heath Wintz, is currently piloting various surface water technologies including membranes, media and UV disinfection to treat water to serve the largest aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) system in the state of Florida. This project, managed by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), is part of the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project, which is in place to help restore the Florida Everglades. The project objectives include: o Increasing water storage capacity in the watershed, resulting in improved Lake Okeechobee water levels o Improving the quantity and timing of discharges to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee estuaries o Restoring wetlands o Improving water supply for existing legal users In addition to the piloting task, the project will include the design and construction of 5 (five) 50-mgd treatment facilities. This project is a great example of an innovative use of water reuse to help solve a growing and important water quality challenge.

Presentation 2: Digital Innovations Will Make Potable Reuse Projects More Affordable Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning has ability to constantly and quickly adapt and process large amounts of data in real-time in a very short period, it may be an ideal platform for supporting our decision for compliance, optimizing performance and life of the built assets and, allowing water utilities to maximize current revenues and effectively plan for the years ahead. Unfortunately, AI/ML has not been largely used in water industry despite its huge potential. The objective of this study is to demonstrate if AI/ML can be successfully applied to potable reuse projects to predict several outcomes that can support human decision and how the concept help us to optimize life cycle cost of assets to make potable reuse projects more affordable. Bio: Ufuk is Arcadis’ Water reuse national practice director with 26 years of diverse experience that includes planning, design, pilot testing, procurement, commissioning and permitting of treatment facilities primarily used in water reuse applications. He is currently working on initiatives and projects to optimize operation and maintenance of advanced treatment facilities using advanced data analytic, artificial intelligence and machine learning. He has served as a board director on The Water Research Foundation Board between 2017 and 2020 to develop sustainable and cost effective water management strategies for communities thru advanced research.
