Program Description:
This program will prepare the participant to be able to perform common injections utilized in a primary eye care setting.
An overview of OSHA requirements will be provided, including proper needle preparation, sharps management, and universal precautions. The pharmacology of injectable medications will be covered including pertinent pharmacokinetics, indications, drug side effects, and drug contraindications.
Specific injection techniques that will be covered include subcutaneous, local infiltrative, intralesional, subconjunctival, intramuscular, and intravenous. Each technique will include a discussion on proper technique, alternative treatments, and potential complications.
These techniques will be covered in lecture format followed by instructor demonstrations and hands-on practice and demonstrated proficiency by each participant. Medico-legal aspects including appropriate chart documentation for each procedure will be presented.
Program Length:
- 8 hours didactic
- 2 hours hands-on workshops
- COPE Approval will be obtained for all 10 hours of education
Requirements for Certification:
- Attend all 8 hours of lecture
- Actively participate in 2 hours of hands-on workshops
- Demonstrate proficiency at performing required injection techniques (check off sheet will be utilized)
- Receive a 70% or higher on the post-program test that will be mailed to all participants that complete the injection program
Upon successfully completing all elements listed above, each individual will receive a personalized certificate of completion and passage.
