MI-ALA Administration Section is hosting a one day professional development program to support the work of mid-level managers and leaders within academic libraries. The program will include 2 panel discussions on leadership topics as well as opportunity for discussion and networking on these topics.

10:15 a.m. Panel Session: The Art and Science of Leading in The Middle

Description: Whether a department head, associate dean, or director/dean in libraries, we are all managing in the middle. This panel will explore what “middle” means in three different contexts. Each of the three panelists will share how he/she works with others in university and library leadership, peers, and those who report to them to effectively move their libraries forward.

Panel Session: Onboarding New Hires

Description: Getting newly hired librarians off to a strong start promotes engagement, performance and retention. This panel will discuss different approaches to the onboarding process from the perspectives of both a community college library and a large academic library.  The discussion will include elements of a successful onboarding program and staffing an onboarding program with limited resources.
