Description: Currently, conventional water and wastewater treatment flushes valuable resources down the drain and leaves harmful contaminants behind. Great Lakes ReNEW, one of the National Science Foundation's Regional Innovation Engines, is transforming waste into wealth for the Great Lakes Region through investments in use-inspired R&D, commercialization of innovations to market, and workforce development. This presentation will provide an overview of the initiative as well as upcoming ways to partner and engage for researchers, utilities, startups, and industry.

Join SYPC members for Chicago River Day

 

Saturday, May 10

9 a.m. - Noon 

Bunker Hill in Niles, IL

 

The goal is to remove litter and invasive species from the Chicago River. We will meet in the Grove 5 parking lot (42.00622587472591, -87.7901520610211).

 

Please note that this is the location that SYPC members chose to volunteer at. Online registration is closed, but in-person registration may be available. Other cleanup locations cross the city can be found here.

 

SYPC members will join the Friends of the Chicago River and other volunteers at their afterparty at Burning Bush Brewery at 12 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact Jason Hoffman (SYPC Vice Chair) at by email or at 317-695-8426.

 

International Resource Recovery Conference & Expo

Water and Waste Management International (WWMI) is organizing the event in association with the Department of Civil, Materials and Environmental Engineering, Energy Resources Center of University of Illinois Chicago, and Illinois Association of Wastewater Agencies.

22nd Annual IWEA Golf Outing

The 2025 Annual IWEA Golf Outing will be on Friday, June 6 at the Links of Carillon in Plainfield, Illinois. Golfing will be followed by drinks and awards. Registration for the outing closes on Thursday, May 29.

 

This event is an excellent opportunity for members to get together and for businesses to market their company through hole sponsorship, interact with other professionals and meet potential clients. Proceeds contribute to the IWEA Scholarship and Charitable Giving Fund. Learn more about IWEA Scholarship Programs.
