Luncheon Description:
As nutrient regulations tighten and utilities seek carbon-efficient strategies for nitrogen removal, Partial Denitrification-Anammox (PdNA) is emerging as a transformative approach. This presentation explores PdNA’s potential beyond the conventional narrative, emphasizing its viability without external carbon sources. Utilities can reduce costs, simplify operations, and mitigate N₂O emissions by leveraging internal carbon (e.g., internally stored carbon, fermentate) strategies. With Colorado’s new, more stringent nitrogen standards on the horizon, PdNA presents a uniquely strong fit. This presentation will highlight not-yet-obvious insights from full-scale demonstration and research efforts to spark practical implementation across the region.

Presenter: Pusker Regmi, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE, Wastewater Sector Leader/Stantec
Dr. Pusker Regmi is a global leader in wastewater innovation and the pioneer behind the Partial Denitrification-Anammox (PdNA). He has advanced breakthrough strategies including shortcut nitrogen removal, low DO operation, and biological densification across utilities worldwide. Widely published and cited, Dr. Regmi bridges research and real-world practice, guiding global efforts through his roles with the Water Research Foundation, the International Water Association, and the Water Environment Federation.
