10/24/2024
9:30 AM - 12:00 PM PST

Event Description
Kings River Mitigation Project Site Tour

Join AEP on Thursday October 24, 2024, for a tour of the Kings River Mitigation Project established to meet compensatory mitigation requirements for the California High Speed Rail Project. Representatives from Westervelt Ecological Services will meet our group to provide an overview of compensatory mitigation and the role it plays in restoring and preserving protected species and habitats. The tour will cover wetland reestablishment, rehabilitation, enhancement, and riparian preservation areas, along with highlighting the wildlife and protected species benefiting from this mitigation project.

Itinerary:
9:30 AM – 9:45 Meet at Faller Park in Sanger, CA. Parking is along 10th Street between J Street and Faller Avenue. We will consolidate vehicles and carpool to the Kings River Mitigation Property.
10:00 AM – Noon – Kings River Mitigation Tour hosted by Westervelt Ecological Services. Parking is limited to five vehicles. Drivers will be provided directions at Faller Park.
Noon – Return to Fallers Park

Pricing: $5.00 per person for members, $15 per person for non-members
Space is limited to 20 people so don’t wait to register.

Note: Sanger is a small town about 20 miles east of Fresno that can best be reached by taking CA-180 east from Fresno for thirteen miles to S. Academy Ave. Turn Right on S. Academy and go 1.5 miles to Church Ave. Turn Left on Church for a few blocks to Faller Ave. The Park is at 10th Street and Faller.

For those planning to attend the Kings River Mitigation Site tour on October 24, 2024, please have appropriate footwear and clothing (i.e. hiking boots, pants, hat and sunscreen). The vegetation can be thick and the ground uneven.  Do not leave any valuables in plain sight and lock your vehicles at the park.  The area is reasonably safe, but it is a good idea to take extra measures.

We want it to be clear that parking at the meeting location – Fallers Park – is at their own risk, and that the High-Speed Rail Authority nor Westervelt is liable for their vehicles. Westervelt Ecological Services has a liability release form for attendees to sign, but it does not cover areas beyond the Mitigation Site.
