Description:


Participants will learn how to trace, transfer and carve a clay panel.  Options for stain, glaze and color will be discussed.

Participants will learn:
- tips for managing flat slabs to prevent warping
- carving techniques for creating dimension

Pre-requisite:
Before class, participants should plan to roll out a slab of clay about 8" by 10" and 3/8" thick.  Compress the slab on both sides, then wrap tightly in Saran Wrap or several layers of plastic.
 

 
Materials:
- Clay of choice
- Tiny loop tool or a set of Kemper carving tools
- Old toothbrush
- Assorted paintbrushes
- Rubber-tipped smoothing tool
- Rubber rib
- Small tip black watercolor marker (usually available at Walmart)
- Recommended: Bring pictures, examples of Southwest images you'd like to create
