Event Description
Number of Sessions:  Three Sessions: Two 2-hour prep, 0ne 3-hour firing
Course Fee:  $45.00
Dates and Times:  Prep:  1/27/23 - 6-8PM; 1/28/23 - 6-8PM, Firing: 1/29/23 - 8-11AM

Students will experience firing their own pieces using the reduction process of raku with the assistance of the instructor.
We use a layered two-step process to control black, gray and white crackle areas on the clay. Color can be added later.

Participants will provide up to 3 reasonably sized pieces made from WS5, Soldate 60 or WSO clay.  Surfaces must be burnished when leather hard or terra sigillata applied when bone dry and include a "grab point" at the top of each piece.  Demo available on request.  No pieces wider than 8 inches please.  Finished work must be placed on right side of window ledge with yellow slip and stickers by December 10.  They will be bisqued to Cone 010.

Preparation will be in two parts: first will involve taping the top and bottom of work, decorative resist taping and dipping work into sacrificial slip.  Second will be dipping work into sacrificial glaze, then carving designs through the glaze layer, if desired, and removing both decorative tape and tape at top and bottom of work which is then ready to fire.

Firing will take place on the raku patio with everyone working as a team to spray fired work with water and removing the shell of slip and glaze, thus leaving the surface "naked."
