It’s Human Nature – How Social Science Can Make You a Better Communicator
Thursday, February 13th, 2020

Have you ever wondered why is it that some people we interact with – colleagues in the office to members of the public – seem to act emotionally and irrationally when certain information is presented to them? Why they seem unable to process and accept what to you is fairly black and white? The answer may come with a better understanding of social science that shows that our brains process information differently when we are also processing our emotions. This presentation, presented by Melissa Elliott and Matt Wittern with Raftelis, touches on why people act and respond the way they do when presented with different types of information, and presents several communications techniques that can help you recognize the cues people give and strategies to adapt your communications to ensure you are never left saying, “I didn’t mean it like that”.
